Colin Gibson 2011 Tour

These Hills Workshops, Music and Ministry.
Colin Gibson Tour – October 2011 – Fun with Hymns & Hymn Fest

I met Colin’s plane, drove him around a lot of the Waikato and King Country over a week, and delivered him to his return flight. We did workshops in Hamilton, Piopio, Turangi, and Bellblock.

We are always impressed with how helpful the members of host parishes are.

From quite a long prepared list of songs, Colin selected songs he felt best suited the people present, explaining the backgrounds to many of them. We enjoyed all these workshops, and received several satisfied messages from those who had attended. Several of the songs Colin taught are already being used in parishes represented at the workshops. The Sales table was also satisfactorily busy.

These Hills Workshops is an ecumenical group dedicated to bringing quality tutors to the sparsely populated, geographically huge areas, especially of the central North Island. We have to fund tutor travel and other expenses from donations received at workshops.

Not everyone was happy with our decision to advertise “Suggested donation $15 to $20. If that much is a problem, please come anyway as your absence cannot help our finances. We would much rather have everyone interested attending and making the events worthwhile, than have the cost keep people away.

While traveling between venues we do sightseeing, at our own expense. This trip we detoured up the East side of Lake Taupo and visited several interesting places near Wairakei, then traveled to Taranaki via the Forgotten World Highway.

On 17th and 18th March 2012, we have Mark Pierson leading workshops on Worship as an Art Form, in Te Kuiti and Taumarunui.
After Labour Weekend, we are planning to fly Colin Gibson to Northland for workshops in Whangarei, Warkworth, Mairangi Bay, and a Hymn Fest in Auckland’s St Matthew’s-in-the-City.

We plan up to 18 months ahead eg to get the cheaper early bird bookings etc. Our advisors will help us find suitable tutors, and we will happily work with you to organise workshops in your regions on any topic relevant to Church Services or parish activities.
